Keeping in touch is what we do.
For years, Keep In Touch has been a place where people stop in to find a card, pick out a gift, mail a package, discover something made locally, or simply say hello. Along the way, we have had thousands of conversations with Marco Island residents, seasonal neighbors, visitors, business owners and friends.
Those conversations are often about much more than what is on the shelf.
They are about Marco Island.
What has changed. What has stayed the same. Where someone ate last night. A favorite sunset. A new business. An old memory. A place a visitor discovered and cannot wait to return to. A family tradition that has been part of Marco for decades. And, sometimes, simply what is on someone’s mind.
That is the idea behind Marco Island — Keep In Touch.
A Place for the Marco Island Conversation
We want this blog to become a place where people who care about Marco Island can read, share, remember and participate.
Some articles will be about life on the island. Others will introduce interesting people, local makers and small businesses. We will look back at Marco Island memories, talk about what is happening now and occasionally share the kinds of little stories that do not always make the news but are part of what makes a community feel like home.
We will also talk about something that seems particularly appropriate for a store called Keep In Touch: staying connected with one another.
That could mean sending a handwritten card to someone you have not spoken with in a while. It could mean sharing an old photograph of Marco Island. It could mean recommending a favorite place to a first-time visitor. Or it might simply mean leaving a thoughtful comment on one of these stories.
We Want to Hear From You
This is not intended to be a one-way conversation.
At the end of our articles, you will be able to share your own thoughts and experiences. Comments will be moderated before they appear publicly so that the conversation remains friendly, useful and respectful.
We welcome different opinions. We welcome memories. We welcome suggestions for stories. And we especially welcome those little pieces of Marco Island knowledge that only someone who lives here, works here, winters here or has been coming here for years would know.
If you have a story you think we should tell, tell us. If you remember something about Marco Island that younger or newer residents might enjoy learning about, tell us. If there is a person, artist, business or local tradition that deserves some attention, tell us about that too.
What You’ll Find Here
Over time, you will see several recurring features, including Postcards from Marco, short observations and reader memories; People of Marco, featuring interesting people in our community; Made on Marco, highlighting local makers, artists and businesses; and Marco Memories, where we can look back at photographs, stories and traditions from years gone by.
And Marco Island — Keep In Touch will remain our ongoing conversation about life here today.
Why Start This Now?
Because communities are built from stories and relationships, not just addresses.
Marco Island changes every year as new people arrive, longtime residents move on, businesses open, buildings change and another season begins. But the stories behind those changes are worth keeping.
We think there should be a comfortable place to do that.
So consider this our first postcard to you.
Welcome to Keep In Touch.
Now we would like to hear from you: What is one thing about Marco Island that you would never want to see change?
Leave your thoughts below. Your answer might even inspire one of our next stories.
